A chipset is just a specified number of microchips which are made to work when Chips launched the 82C206 with a number of associated capabilities which were first launched in 1986.
 

Chipsets are usually designed to work with a specific family of microprocessors. Because it controls communications between the processor and external devices, the chipset plays a crucial role in determining system performance.
 

The initial 82C206 chipset involved the MC146818 Time, 82288 Bus Control, 8254 Program Timer, double 8259 Interrupt Controllers and also the 82284 Generator capabilities.
