Direct3D was presented using the DirectX API to make 3D items on the computer. For other application and activities using 3D objects, Direct3D enables manifestation of those designs without sacrificing performance.
Computer programs, including activities, could be run-in full screen mode because of Direct3D. It employs hardware acceleration when on the video card.
Direct3D’s main competitor is Khronos’ OpenGL and its follow-on Vulkan. Fahrenheit was an attempt by Microsoft and SGI to unify OpenGL and Direct3D in the 1990s, but was eventually cancelled.
