Stands for “File Transfer Protocol”, Abhay Bhushan first suggested on April 16, 1971 FTP for and created for execution on hosts at MIT and was described by RFC 959. FTP can be a common method of getting and delivering documents between two computers via internet technology.

A Web browser like Netscape or Internet Explorer to access FTP servers. enter the URL of the server into the location field of the browser.


For example: “ftp://ftp.servername.com/” will give you a listing of all the directories of the FTP server,

“ftp://ftp.servername.com/directory/” will give you a listing of all the files accessible in that directory, and “ftp://ftp.servername.com/directory/filename” will download the real file to your computer.
