Graymail is email sent to an address that’s activated or elected to get the email due to a previous curiosity about the topic. However, after a while the address manager becomes less involved and says less and less of these till they mess the mailbox. In addition there is often a timeliness component to graymail whereby the utility of the message expires or becomes out of date after a period of time.
 

Shopping deals are a good example: they’re only valid for a fixed number of hours or days but are frequently not read or opened by the recipient until after the offer has expired.
 

Since the person once had a pastime within the service or product, they’re unwilling to unsubscribe simply because they feel even the service may provide something which interests them in a later time or their attention might peak.
