Hard drive abbreviated as HDD “Hard Disk Drive” or HD, the drive is the computer’s primary storage media system that completely stores all information about the computer. The drive was initially launched on September 13, 1956 and includes a number of drive platters within air sealed housing.
The data is stored on the hard drive magnetically, so it stays on the drive even after the power supply is turned off. The two most common form factors for modern HDDs are 3.5-inch, for desktop computers, and 2.5-inch, primarily for laptops. HDDs are connected to systems by standard interface cables such as PATA (Parallel ATA), SATA (Serial ATA), USB or SAS (Serial attached SCSI) cables.
