Stands for “Interrupt Request” and pronounced as I-RQ, IRQ is a signal with a direct line to the computer central processing unit letting it cease the central processing unit briefly and determine what to do. The microprocessor is the brain of the computer.

All the apparatus that make up the computer want to correspond through the microprocessor, but the processor can’t handle the entire infrastructure concurrently.
